To help you get started, I suggest you begin doing these three things:
1. Begin buying the Sunday Atlanta Journal Constitution.
Usually the papers are out Saturday evening at any local grocery store, gas station, pharmacy, etc... The Sunday papers are $2. If you can get one, spend and extra $1 and get the double coupon issue (it is two papers bound together by a blue paper band). Be careful! Some Sunday papers, especially those around holidays, will not have coupons. Usually, if you can't find a double coupon issue, or the paper doesn't have the "savings" headline at the top of the paper, there are no coupons in the paper!
2. Research websites that do all the hard work for you!
Go to sites like this one to find out deals people have found in our area. They will show you, by store, the sales and promotions that are going on and coupons to stack and use with those items. Some coupons you can find in the paper (RP= Red Plum coupons, SS= Smart Source coupons, P&G= Procter and Gamble coupons, which only are in one Sunday paper per month), some are printable coupons from online coupon banks, such as http://www.coupons.com/ and http://www.shopathome.com/, and some are store coupons.
3. Take your time!
My advice, take it easy and learn how to coupon at one store at a time! I started with Publix, then Kroger, CVS, Target, and so on. Pick the store that is the closest to you and go from there. Once you have mastered couponing at one store, move on to another one!
Be patient, ask questions, and good luck!!
