My Coupon Notebook

If you've read my "Fourth Rule of Couponing", then you know that there are 2 recommended ways to organize your coupons.  I have chosen to use a coupon notebook for 3 reasons:
  1. It is easier to see what I have, seperated into sections
  2. They are already cut when I want to pull my coupons for my shopping trip
  3. I can take all my coupons to the store with me in case I see some unadvertised deals!
Here is how I set up my notebook:
I bought this notebook from Staples for $14.99, along with 2 sets of 8 tabbed dividers ($4.79 each) and 3 packages of 10 sheets of trading card holders ($2.99 each):
I chose this one for its size, durability, and the fact it could zip closed (it also has a strap, should I want to carry it on my shoulder) and had internal pockets to store my scissors, pen, paper to make my grocery lists, and envelopes to put my coupons in that I know I am going to use at the store this week.  Because I usually plan at least 2 trips a week, this keeps my coupons seperated from each other.  On the envelope I write the name of the store and the date I am going to use them.
I then inserted my tabs and trading card sheets.  My dividers are labeled as follows:
  • Dairy Products
  • Refrigerated Products
  • Frozen Products
  • Beverage Products
  • Canned Goods
  • Boxed Goods
  • First Aid/Medicine
  • Household/Office
  • Paper Products
  • Cleaning Supplies
  • Baby Products
  • Beauty Products
  • Breakfast Products
  • Snack Products
  • Baking/Spices
  • Condiments/Dressings
You may use any number of headings that I don't have, like Pet Products, Laundry (seperate from cleaning), Meat (sepreate from refrigerated), or seperate Household and Office Supplies!  You know what you need, make your headings work for you!
I put my coupons, according to its section, in the trading card holders.  I usually put the manufacturers coupon in the front and the store coupons behind it.  I put the restaurant coupons I may use in the back pocket of the notebook.
Make sure you clean the expired coupons out of your notbeook every 2 weeks at the least.  This method takes a lot longer to do, but makes it easier for me to use while I am at the store!
I hope this helps you to put your coupon notebook together, should you decide to organize your coupons this way!  Let me know if you have any questions!  Happy Organizing!
